The prophet
Jeremiah gives us a good reason to believe in God. Turn to his book of
prophecy, chapter 10, verse 23, “O, Lord, I know that the way of man is not
in himself; it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.” Every time
man has tried to find his own way without God he has destroyed himself.
The psalmist
cried out in Psalms 43:3, “Oh send out thy light and thy truth; let them
lead me.” Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12) and He is the truth
(John 14:6). This is whom God sent to lead us.
In Romans 3:4
we read, “Let God be found true, and every man a liar.” We must accept God
and His word. Every time man has attempted to function without God he has
failed. In Romans 1, beginning with verse 18, see what happened to those who
tried to live and function without God. They destroyed themselves. There is
no alternative to God! He is the beginning, the end, and all in between.
Revelation 4:8 says of God, “who was, who is, and who is to come.” Those who
turn to God to direct their lives have great joy in this world, and the
assurance of a better world awaits them when this life is over.
In James 1:17
we find, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down
from the Father of Lights…” When we believe in and follow God we can expect
the best this life has to offer and better still in the next life!
Jesus says we
cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). We are going to follow the will of
God, or the will of the devil. We have every incentive to follow God. When
Joshua was closing his appeal to the Israelites (Joshua 24:15), he told them
they had to choose whom they would serve. They could serve God, or idols
made by men. Joshua said he and his family would serve God. He made the best
choice. More in the
