Let us look at
the practical sides of the two ways we may live our lives.
Suppose you
are an employer looking for someone to fill a position of importance. Would
you want to hire someone who did no better on the job than he had to do? Or,
hire someone who would be the best he could while looking for a way to do
even better? Want to hire someone who had no conscience against stealing?
Someone who would take things he wanted if he saw he would not be caught.
Or, hire someone who believed he had to be honest with his time, your
possessions, or he would be punished forever? Want to hire someone who would
lie to you if he thought that lie would serve his needs better? Or, hire
someone who believed he had to tell the truth all of the time, or spend
eternity in a lake of fire?
Believers
have the same opportunities as unbelievers to get good training for any job.
But he brings with him to his job more motivation to do the best he can. He
has stronger reasons to be honest and moral than the unbeliever has.
There are
some unbelievers who do well in their lives, from a secular, material point
of view. These are the ones who believe that to be honest, moral and
ambitious will serve them best in this life.
There are
many believers who do more in every field because they have stronger
motivation to do all things well. I would rather be surrounded by them in
the work environment.
