I have read
books on this question that took both the affirmative and the negative
sides. I think the question can be answered by the experience people have
who take each view.
Here is the
view of those who do not believe we need faith to have a productive,
fulfilling life. To them our natural life, beginning with birth and ending
at death, is all there is. After death they believe they just cease to
exist. Some people with this view live an honest, moral life. They try not
to hurt anyone. They pay their debts. They hope they can be comfortable
until death. They expect nothing beyond that time.
I have
observed many Christians who believed in God. They tried to live the best
moral and honest lives they could. Because they believe God put us here, and
that He has something better for us when this life is over, they endure any
hardship they have, heartaches and sorrows, with cheerfulness, believing all
will be well with them in another life. Their lives are predominantly
peaceful, joyous, loving and hopeful. I believe faith in God raises the
quality of our lives on earth. We are predominately optimistic and pleasant.
It has been
my observation that those with faith in God upgrade their earthly existence
with contentment, and a more positive attitude toward life.
We have only
one time to live in this world. I believe we should make it the best life
possible for us. More to follow…
