Hebrews 10: 23
tells us “let us hold fast the confession of our hope that is waver not; for
He is faithful that promised.”
We have seen
that God was faithful to fulfill His promises in the Old Testament. Now we
are dealing with the same God in the New Testament, and we can trust God to
be faithful to His promises to us.
The promises
of the Old Testament were primarily for the descendants of Abraham through
Isaac. Now God wants the Gentiles to know they are included in the promises
of the New Testament. Ephesians 3:6 reads “that the Gentiles are
fellow-heirs, and fellow-members of the body, and fellow-partakers of the
promises in Christ Jesus through the gospel.”
Christ
charged His disciples “to go into all the world and preach the gospel to the
whole creation.” (Mark 16:15) All of God’s promises in the New Testament are
made the same to all people.
Two promises
are recorded in the epistle of James. In chapter 1:12, “Blessed is the man
that endures temptation; for when he has been approved he shall receive the
crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love Him.” We see that
promise repeated in James 2:5.
When we read
the whole Bible we find that God always kept His promises to whom He made
them. We have confidence that He will keep his promises to us.
We will list
some promises God has made to all men in our next message.
