| My wife, Sue, and I have just
passed our middle 80s. We have been married sixty-six and one half years. In
that time we have met thousands of people. Two to three thousand of them we
got to know quite well.
All of the people we have known have had one thing in common. They all
wanted to be happy. Some of them reached great happiness. Others have a
moderate happiness. We have seen some become very miserable while they were
trying to be happy.
Our lives have had some anxiety, some sorrow, quite a bit of pain.
Through it all we have been basically happy. From our experience and
observing others we have found what it is that makes people really happy.
Those ideas we want to share with you.
We married in 1934. I graduated from college in 1935. I worked at my
calling in life for sixty-five years. Age and some health problems forced me
to retire on January 1, 2000. Since then I have written my memoirs. Now I
have been asked to write a weekly web page that will be inspirational to
others. My aim in this effort will be to help others increase the joy and
happiness in their lives. If I can do that, the joy and happiness Sue and I
have will be increased also. That will be our reward.
We found early in our lives that the more we could help others enjoy
their lives the happier our lives became. If I do help you have more
